Firstly, and I know there will be some disappointment overall but congratulations to the 1st Team who ended the season in second place.

I personally want to thank Martin Weaver for making me so welcome at the matches and also acknowledge his hard work in managing the team. Not forgetting of course the players who I can assure you made every effort to win the league.

As we get closer to the end of the month – may I ask and remind those that have not yet paid to do so as reluctantly I will open to the reserve listings on Thursday 1st September.

The programme starts at Breadsall Priory on Friday 16th September with Tea, Coffee and Bacon Rolls on arrival and the first tee time at 11.30am. Following this we will make the 6 minute transfer to Morley Hayes where we stay for the two nights inclusive of Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Full details of the programme will follow in early September. Last week I visited, played, dined and inspected all that is on offer for us – we have private rooms for dining and a bar in each. Sunday we will be returning to the club for the presentation of prizes from the weekend.

Yes Newt and I have started to paint the men’s changing rooms and we will as time allows continue to progress this project. Mick will e-mail a request for help so if you can help – please do so.

I want to thank you for an interesting and challenging debate about our Golf Club and how it performs against past and present. I remain firm in the belief that change is progress but understand the desire to try and manage that process with some degree of sensitivity and respect. I am, as your Captain, always willing to listen and will never disregard any opportunity to hear all points of views.

Like most I was disappointed not only for Dave and Jon in the poor attendance of the evening’s entertainment. Dave as always takes these things in his stride and appreciated the high number of members that actually played during the day – thanks also to the Cabin Team for food and beverages.

I am looking forward to our “SWING EVENING” on Saturday 22nd October. Tickets will be priced at £10.00 inclusive of live entertainment, and food.

The whole theme and spirit of the evening will be a celebration of that magical time when Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and the gang wooed many. Plus special appearances from some members too. Tickets go on sale soon and I ask sincerely your support for this local charity overall.

Finally, may I comment that it’s good to see our new members mixing in and enjoying the Birstall experience. We are foremost and importantly committed to providing one of the best golf experiences in Leicestershire. Please continue to support as many activities, social events and competitions as you can.
