Captain’s Blog – Friday 11th November 2016
Hello! I am soon to be setting up for The Captain’s Trophy Supper and I am expecting it to be a good night with those attending.
As most of you know, Remembrance Weekend is upon us and indeed we have a special person, amongst others, to remember.
Jack Cawkwell was the Professional at Birstall Golf Club prior to joining the Cheshire Regiment. He was killed in action on the 26th April 1918 and commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial to the missing, Flanders Belgium. In remembrance of his service to Birstall Golf Club and to mark this weekend I have placed a commemorative flag on the 18th Green. I would ask you all at 11.00am on Sunday to pay respect to the fallen in all wars and be proud of that moment.
Moving on, the Lady Captain’s Trophy Supper was an excellent evening and once again, with some assistance from the Ex Captains, the Kitchen Staff stepped up to the mark. Well done Steve and the whole team.
The course and our ground staff continue, with winter conditions, to do the very best they can and thanks to Martin’s continued efforts, the new practice area is underway.
Looking ahead I want to thank all the section Captains, our unsung heroes, who organise so many team matches. Next year I am available for the Seniors ha ha!
Finally, there are so many people to thank along with the new friends that have supported me. Never to forget our backroom Admin team who without their hard work (that not everyone appreciates) I would have, at times, not survived.
I also want to officially wish Nigel Spencer all the very best and thank and acknowledge his support under the guidance of Jim Smith (now called 3 point Smith) for everything. It’s not over as yet but now I will take a well deserved 5 week holiday so do not be concerned if you don’t see me around ha ha.
